Simple widget to move posts from a category to the sidebar. Posts in this category do not show on index, archives or feeds.
Description
With this widget you select the category you want, and all entries with this category, will be shown on the sidebar instead the main blog. You will have then a small blog on the sidebar for those special entries. For each entry, you have the link to the post page. You can select the number of posts to show and if you want to show only the post excerpt or the full post content (Also excerpt with thumbnails can be shown or your out output template can be created).
Another option is to set a widget to show only private posts. In this case, private posts are hidden only in the home page and nowhere else. When set to private posts, widget only shows to users with read_private_posts capability (By default Administrators and Editors). Each widget has foot links to the category archive and feed (except por private posts).. With this simple functions, you will have a small blog on the sidebar.

Great little niche widget, I love it. There’s one thing I’d like to ask though – is it possible to have an option to NOT have the same post show in the sidebar when one clicks through to the content of a post? Maybe have the next post in the catagory show, or leave out the post for that instance.
When the same content is duplicated on the main column as well as on the sidebar, it looks kinda stupid.

Great widget, could be just what Im looking for…!
Only one thing that would perfect it for me…. would be fantastic if there was a setting to be able to scroll through posts in the widget if there were lots of them!
Im trying to seperate my posts in sections on my sidebar, Instead of the archive link I would prefer to be able to eiter have a drop down or better still, a scroll bar so I can put loads of posts in.

Great Plugin, i use it on my site. In my case, the stylesheet does not work. Even if is delete it i get the same results.

Hi, what a great plug-in! I have made a Bulgarian translation but I am not sure how to send it to you?

it seems the newest version of Sidepost (Alkivia Sidepost 2.5.2) does not work on my webpages, as the operator does not support newest PHP version. As such I can not guarantee that Finnish is still working as a distro language.
Is there a workaround?

Translations never is a problem for working in any PHP version, as it is a feature provided by standard files that are not related to the PHP version. If you have trouble with the latest SidePosts version, which requires PHP 5.2, you can browse the code versions on the code site http://code.alkivia.org/wsvn/gpl/plugins/sideposts/tags/ choose the version you want and then download the tarball for that version.
Any way, I would recommend to change your operator, as PHP 5.2 was released on Nov, 6 2006 (This is more than three years old!). Really I would not rely on a provider that got stuck to obsolete and insecure PHP versions.
Well, the operator claims to have PHP 5.2.0.8 as a service, but Wordpress shows the version being 5.1.. Hopefully they will actually upgrade PHP soonest!
